So I admit to being a wussie, fair weather commuter.  I would like to change that, but the prospect of riding through Seattle rain to and from work all winter is not appealing.  My other concern is…  What about my poor bike!  I am currently commuting on my 2003 Giant OCR 1.  She has about 20k miles on her and we have been through a lot together.  Sure she is not a new bike, but she does not deserve to be ridden hard and hung up wet 5 months of the year.  There are other options for a winter commuter.  The Surley Long Haul Trucker comes to mind.  That bad boy is built like a tank.  If I were to haul that beast around all winter I would be a superstar come cycling season 🙂  There are other options.  Internally geared hubs, single speed, disc brakes, fixies.  Well this guy shows us his winter set-up.  I am sure I would make some different choices, but it does give me something to think about!
